UM held the Unveiling Ceremony of the Anthony Lau Building

Dr. Anthony Lau, an alumnus of the University of Macau (UM) has previously donated MOP 10 million to the University of Macau, with the hope of advancing whole-person education at UM. To show gratitude for Alumnus Lau’s generosity, the Alumni and Development Office (ADO) has organized an unveiling ceremony for the Anthony Lau Building during the Alumni Day 2014 last Saturday.

The unveiling ceremony was officiated by UM Rector Wei Zhao and donor Dr. Anthony Lau. Rector Zhao expressed thanks to Dr. Lau’s enthusiasm on higher education and his support towards the development of the alma mater. Rector Zhao also stated that it was a meaningful activity as the Anthony Lau Building was the first named teaching building on UM new campus. The four-storey Anthony Lau Building is located at the E4 of the Central Teaching Building (CTB), equipped with various sizes of lecture theatres and classrooms. The entire Anthony Lau Building can accommodate close to 2,000 students to take classes at the same time.

During the speech, Dr. Lau stated that having a good education is essential to students’ growth and development. He also expressed that he missed the time studying in the University. By having excellent campus facilities, he wished that his contribution can benefit the University for better development.

Alumnus Dr. Anthony Lau is a pioneer of the Hong Kong logistics industry. He is currently serves as the Executive Chairman of Pacific Air Limited. Dr. Lau spared no effort to support the development of his alma mater since graduation from the University of East Asia (predecessor of UM) with a Master of Business Administration degree. During the construction of the UM new campus in 2010, Alumnus Lau donated MOP 10 million to the University, with the hope of advancing whole-person education at UM and aim to develop excellent leaders for Macau.
