Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the University of Macau : CKYC Conversations

To encourage more interaction between College Fellows and students, a new CKYC monthly event, “CKYC conversations”, was initiated with the first dinner held on 4 November, hosted by CKYC non-resident Fellow Distinguished Professor CHEN Xin, Interim Director of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences.

The “Conversation” took place over dinner, which gave a relatively relaxing atmosphere to avoid the rigidity and inflexibility of regular teacher-student interaction. In the beautiful evening, the participants tasted the exquisite Portuguese cuisine and toasted each other, during which there were sparkles and charm of ideas collision between Fellows and students.

Professor Chen shared his early study experience and made a parallel comparison of the development of Chinese medicine at home and abroad. Throughout the evening, students eagerly asked questions based on what they have seen and heard about traditional Chinese medicine culture in their daily lives. Professor Chen answered these questions engagedly both in terms of professional knowledge and daily life. Professor Chen also expressed his confidence in the development prospects of Chinese medicine. He believed that traditional Chinese medicine is deep-rooted and quintessential of Chinese culture and could play an important and significant role in the development of modern society. As the evening drew to a close, he encouraged students to study hard and enrich their knowledge.

This activity shortened the distance between Fellows and students, and promoted the communication between teachers and students, thus enabling students to better understand their teachers outside the classroom. This monthly CKYC Conversations dinner series with non-resident Fellows from different Faculties helps to guide students in the different aspects of their academic and personal development, which gave full play to the advantages of residential colleges’ education.
