Dear Academic and Administration Colleagues
The activity period of The Third University of Macau Energy Saving Competition is from 1st August to 31th December 2017. The number of prizes of the competition is increased to 10. Six of them will be awarded to top 6 participating units. The prize amount is determined by 5% of saving in electricity costs, the ceiling and floor amount of corresponding prizes. While the other four prizes are “Big Saver”, “Best Implementer of Energy Saving Measures”, “Most Energy Efficient Residential College”, and “Most Improved Participant”. Their prize amount is fixed. The aim of “Best Implementer of Energy Saving Measures” is to encourage participating units to discover and implement energy saving measures. Each energy saving measure is counted as 1 score. CMDO-Energy Section will provide technical support and record the measures. While the purpose of “Most Improved Participant” is to praise the participating unit with remarkable improvement. The improvement is evaluated by comparing the competition results of the second and the third energy saving competition. The participating unit with the greatest improvement will win this prize.

The top 6 participating units of August are “Faculty of Health Sciences” (E12), “UM Sports Complex” (N8), “UM Wu Yee Sun Library and University Gallery” (E1 & E2), “Central Teaching Buildings” (E3 – E7), “Cheong Kun Lun College” (W34), and “Faculty of Science and Technology” (E11). Their electricity cost dropped by 11% to 21%.

As for the prize “Best Implementer of Energy-Saving Measures”, “UM Wu Yee Sun Library and University Gallery” (E1 & E2) and “Student Activity Centre, Faculty of Law & Faculty of Education” (E31, E32 & E33) implemented 11 and 10 energy saving measures, respectively, in August. The measures included switching off unnecessary lights, switching off computer before getting off work, setting air conditioning temperature to 25 degree, keeping doors and windows closed when air conditioners are running.

The most energy efficient residential college is “Cheong Kun Lun College” (W34). The electricity cost saving is 11.93%.

The charts and figures below demonstrate the performance of each participating units in August.

Remark: As W34 is the new operation building in June 2017, average electricity cost for 2016 of other college buildings will be used for comparison.
