MCMC - FACULTY SEMINAR SERIES:
5 Ingredients of Optimal Second Language Learning On Wednesday, 30th November 2022, MCM College was delighted to have college affiliate, Prof. Younhee Kim (FAH) to meet with students. The seminar drew interest among students especially as it was specific to second language learning. Prof. Kim shared her extensive research findings with students, allowing them an in-depth insight into the five main elements for successfully learning a second language.
The biggest barrier for most people is the lack of confidence. Therefore, children pick up a second language faster than adults because they have the courage to speak and interact with others. In addition, children easily immerse and assimilate into the local culture and develop positive attitudes as they become part of the community. As children learn, they also come into contact with multimedia in the target language. Reading and watching films in the target language are popular ways.
Students were given an opportunity to engage in a short discussion with Prof. Kim towards the end of the workshop, and there was a mutual exchange of ideas and even a possibility of pursuing ideas for further research based on second language learning. |
