Joyous Hiking in Macao Series – Retrace Hidden Gems of Coloane

On 13th November, 2022, MCM College Faculty and students of St Paul’s House set off early Sunday morning on a hike along the trails of Coloane Island. The purpose was to retrace the oldest pathway known as Caminho Antigo de Seac Min Pun de Coloane, or the Stone Basin of Coloane.

Historically, island inhabitants of Hác-Sá Village and Coloane Village journeyed through this sinuous and rugged path. They typically started at the entrance of Hác-Sá Village, and trekked westbound, cutting across two valleys. It was the key communication route up until the opening of the first paved road in the 1960s.

As participants travelled along the western valley section facing Coloane Village, they passed a number of lookout points. Student Leader, Necolas explained that “Seac Min Pun” could be seen at the bottom of the valley”.

Students were able to capture beautiful images from various panoramic viewpoints, as well as taking some time to marvel at breathtaking scenic views that overlook a magnificent statue of A-Ma, as well as visiting the nearby A-Ma cultural village.
