Dear Students,

The English Language Centre of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities would like to present you the workshop with the theme of "Critical thinking: Avoiding logical fallacies" in this Spring Semester respectively on March 16, 23, 30 & April 6.

First round
Day 1: 10:00-13:00

Number of Participants: 15 UM Students for each round

Facilitator: English Language Teaching Assistants (ELTAs)

Smart Point and CS: *Students who attend both sessions in one round will be awarded 2 smart points and 60 CS.

Level(s): All levels of English are welcome, especially for students who are interested in learning different fallacies.

Objectives: Critical thinking is essential to effective learning, but do you know that critical thinking involves a lot of logical reasoning as well? Have you heard of any logical errors or have you made any? In the “Fall for Fallacy” workshops, you will learn how to identify different logical fallacies through games and see some examples from daily life and popular culture, which will definitely benefit your critical thinking ability. Join us and have fun!

Learning Outcomes
In this workshop, students will:
1. Be aware of some common logic errors in daily life through self-correction.
2. Be able to get to know the concepts of logical fallacies.
3. Enhance their critical thinking ability by pointing out logical fallacies in the videos.
4. Improve their English listening and speaking skills.
5. Be able to facilitate their ability to identify logic errors in texts.
6. Be able to improve their critical reading skills.
7. Be able to be exposed to different kinds of authentic texts.

Prizes: The members from winning team will each receive a bluetooth speaker.
