    Dear All Users,

We are happy to announce that we have completed the upgrade of the central database.

Oracle is our central database as the backend of all major applications in UM, and it processes billions of transactions every day. As Oracle no longer supports older versions, we need to update the whole database system to continue to have vendor’s support and maintenance. As almost all information systems are being involved, the entire upgrade project is huge and complex. Also due to the pandemic and resources, the entire upgrade process was carried out by ICTO personnel. Starting from September last year, the first test environment was configured to try the upgrade, and more than 240 application systems and modules were being tested. Furthermore, the legacy version of Oracle Forms were also required to be migrated to newer version. Over 1 year of work and tuning on countless late nights, the upgrade is now complete. Thank you for your understanding for any inconvenience caused.

The new version has made many improvements for the high availability, security and performance, and the new version also supports more updated technologies, such as Big Data and NoSQL.

ICTO introduce new technology to support the development of the University, and updates existing technology to keep the campus in operation and striving to keep the information infrastructure state-of-the-art. Upgrades are really important for keeping all of our business processes running smoothly and efficiently. It also allows us to be more flexible and be proactive as opposed to reactive will help us respond quickly in the future.
