    Celebrating The 40th Anniversary of The University of Macau: The UM English Speech Contest 2021 was held successfully

    UM public speaking team and UM English language center successfully co-hosted the UM English Speech Contest 2021

    The speech contest took Evolution and Innovation as its theme. 8 outstanding contestants from UM public speaking team and debating team participated in the contest. We are also honored to invite 3 professors from ELC as well as 2 coaches from UM public speaking team: Vivian Chaplin (ELC Senior Instructor), Joshua Lee (ELC Senior Instructor), Kerrin Burnell (ELC Instructor), Zhang Yixin (PST coach), and Leong Weng Kei (PST coach) to be judges for this contest. All contestants expressed their innovative and unique ideas towards the theme with confident performance.

    After the fierce competition, Lau Kak Chi Cora Margaret, a fourth-year undergraduate student from FAH won the champion, Feng Tong Tong, a second-year undergraduate student from FBA won the first runner-up, Li Xu, a second-year undergraduate student from FBA won the second runner-up. Apart from these contestants, Zhang Ming Zhu from FAH, Shu Hua Guan and Liu Yan Tong from FBA, Chen Jun Yi and Zhuang Yuan from FSS also got excellent performance.

    After the performance, all judges were invited to comment on the speeches. All of them expressed their appreciation on the impressive delivery and agreed with how the contestants used their own experience to illustrate the topic. They also expressed their sincere hope that more new and detailed ideas will be delivered in the speeches in the future. The English speech contest attracted many students from different faculties. We believe that after this precious experience, the contestants as well as the audience can deeply feel the attractiveness and power within a speech.
