Last Sunday, University of Macau Choir successfully held the first internal singing contest “As One”. The contest divided into two categories: Solo and A Cappella. There were fourteen choir members joint the Solo category. Meanwhile, there were two A Cappella teams formed rapidly and participated in A Cappella Category.

The name “As One” means that this was the first time UMChoir to hold a singing contest on one hand. On the other hand, it also symbolizes that music is the best lover for Choir members and the love towards music at first sight. We hope that all the participants, helpers and audience could be recalled their memories and feelings when they started to love music. More importantly, throughout the event, we would like to build the bonding among choir member, enhance the sense of belongings and promote A Cappella culture.

UMChoir invited three professionals as judges in the contest: Katrine K Wong, Director of Centre for Teaching and Learning Enhancement. Willson, Lo Pui Kwan, the conductor of University of Macau Choir. Cathy, Si Ka Hei, the member of a Macau A Cappella Team “Double Sharp” and of Dolce Voce, a Macau famous A Cappella Choir. At the same, “Double Sharp”, a young A Cappella team in Macau, was invited to be guests performing at the end of the contest.

In the contest, it contained several awards: Champion, 1st Runner-up, 2nd Runner-up and Best Stage Performance Award for each category, Most Popular Prize for Solo category, Best Collaboration Award for A Cappella category.

After the great performances from participants and guest “Double Sharp” , the contest was ended in joy and pleasure. As a member of cultural and art team, University of Macau Choir is always willing to bring new activities for choral enthusiasts. With our passion and willingness, we hope to create more activities for choral lovers in the future.
