It is our great pleasure to have Prof. Jean Chen, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration, as a distinguished speaker at the "Dean of Students' Tea" to share on "the Rise of China and the Evolution of Business and Management Education'".

Abstract of the sharing:
Professor Chen received her underground education in China and her postgraduate education in the UK and lived in the UK for more than 30 years. She will see the rise of China in the past 40 years from the perspective of people’s daily life and share her valuable experience of study, living and working in China and the UK. She will provide advice to students on how to become a global citizen and how to balance life and study/work. She will also talk about the evolution and new trend of business and management education in China and around the world and the responsibility of business school.

Introduction to Prof. Jean Chen

Professor Jean Jinghan Chen joined the University of Macau in 2018 as a Chair Professor in Accounting and Finance and the Dean of Faculty of Business Administration. Prior to joining the University of Macau, Professor Jean Chen has worked in the UK Higher Education Sector for almost 30 years. She was the founding Head of Southampton Business School and a Chair Professor in Accounting and Finance at the University of Southampton in the UK in 2014 and became the first-ever Dean of Chinese origin in British business schools. Professor Chen also worked as the Associate Dean of Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, the Vice President and Chief Executive of Surrey International Institute, and a Chair Professor in Financial Management at the University of Surrey; the Executive Dean of International Business School and Chair Professor of Accounting and Finance in Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

Professor Chen was elected by the UK Business Schools and held two senior roles as a Council Member and the Chair of Council's International Committee in the UK Royal Chartered Association of Business Schools (ABS) during 2014 and 2015. She was also elected by the China Management Academic in November 2015 to serve as an Executive Director of the China Academy of Management since then. To recognize Professor Chen’s outstanding contribution to High Education, the Ministry of Education of China presented her a prestigious National award ‘Outstanding Overseas Scholar’ in 2012.

Professor Chen is a Fellow of CPA (Australia) and an academic member of the Association of International Accountants (AIA, UK). She has a wide connection with professional bodies, industries and government organizations through her many years’ executive education and consultancy work, such as for the British Government (DFID and DTI), the EU, the Bank of China, and many private companies in China and overseas.

Professor Chen has been recognized internationally as an expert of accounting and finance in general and more specifically in the field of corporate governance. This recognition has been reflected by serving as an editor and on the editorial board of world leading academic journals, delivering international conference keynote speeches and seminars, and participating in advisory and review bodies. She has published over 100 articles in leading international academic journals and conferences.

Professor Chen's qualification:
BSc (1st class) (Nankai University, China), PhD (Lancaster University, UK), Fellow of Higher Education Academy UK (FHEA), Fellow, Chartered Public Accountant Australia (FCPA).

1. Students who attend the WHOLE activity and arrive ON TIME will be given one Smart Point
2. Students who arrive late or leave early within 10 minutes will be given only half a Smart Point
3. Students who arrive late or leave early over 10 minutes will NOT be given any Smart Point
4. Students who leave the venue during the activity for over 15 minutes will NOT be given any Smart Point
5. Students are required to check in/out of the activity with Student ID Card. For those who do not respect the activity or neglect the staff’s guidance, SAO reserves the right to cancel his/her Smart Point.
