Dear colleagues and students,

As shown in the ovitrap survey report done by Health Bureau of Government of Macao S.A.R. about monitoring the outdoor breeding activities of mosquitoes, the number of mosquitoes in UM campus area is increasing. Stagnant water is the breeding site of mosquitoes. We should remove stagnant water in our daily life and implement the following measures to prevent against diseases (such as Dengue Fever, Zika Virus Disease, etc.) transmitted by mosquitoes.
  • Drains should be kept unclogged and avoid stagnant water;
  • Pour away the stagnant water in flowerpots, flowerpot plates, vases, beverage bottles, etc.;
  • Cover sewage pits and reservoirs;
  • Clean up the garbage in the sinks and ditches;
  • Install anti-mosquito screens in residency when needed;
  • When going to outdoor area, wear light-colored, long pants and long-sleeved clothes;
  • Apply DEET-containing anti-mosquito repellent on clothes and exposed parts of the body;
  • Pregnant women or those who plan to become pregnant should avoid going to affected areas of Zika Virus.

If you would like to know more about communicable diseases, please visit the website of Health Bureau https://www.ssm.gov.mo/Portal/csr/pt/main.aspx (Portuguese and English only).
