To all students of the University of Macau

Dear students,

In order to reduce the risk of transmission of the novel coronavirus on campus and to protect the health and safety of all students and staff, the university has made the following arrangements:

(1) Arrival and Registration for New Students
New students who are from outside of Macao are not required to arrive on campus for registration within the originally scheduled time frame. For those who have not yet registered and who are unable to arrive on campus for registration, the university will provide an online registration channel for them to complete the registration process.

(2) Class Arrangements
The scheduled start date of 18 August will remain unchanged, and all classes in August will be conducted online. Classroom teaching on campus will be suspended. Students (now in Macao or otherwise) do not need to arrive at UM in August and will be notified of class arrangements for September at a later date depending on the severity of the epidemic.

The Graduate School and the Registry will notify postgraduate and undergraduate students, respectively, of registration, course selection, and class arrangements by email.

(3) Accommodation
Students who have already moved into the Postgraduate House or the residential colleges may continue to stay on campus. The university urges students who have not yet arrived in Macao or moved into the abovementioned accommodation facilities on campus to wait for the epidemic to subside before travelling to Macao or staying on campus, in order to avoid the risk of contracting the virus during travel and the inconvenience created by quarantine requirements, as well as to avoid the risks associated with increased occupancy on campus. The Student Resources Section and the residential colleges will notify postgraduate and undergraduate students, respectively, of accommodation arrangements by email.

Health and safety should be a priority for everyone. The university urges students to stay alert and informed and to take appropriate precautions during the epidemic no matter where they are.
