UM Mental Health Awareness Month: “Worry-Free Garden” Experience Workshop
In response to UM Mental Health Awareness Month, Ms. Yan Leong, MCM College social worker, organised a horticultural workshop on 20th October 2022 to promote students’ well-being. To reduce unnecessary worries, Yan combined gardening with guided conversation as she led the workshop. Participants felt peaceful in the college courtyard as it proved to be a wonderful stress reliever. It also allowed them to let go of their worries as they focused on painting and gardening. Tending to plants allowed students to tap into their carefree zone with no assignment deadlines or mid-term exams to worry about. At the end of the workshop, participants shared their wonderful experiences and happily took home their small potted plants.
