UM wins championship of international Mandarin debate competition
The University of Macau (UM) Mandarin Debating Team recently won the championship of an international debate competition. Team member Liu Xiran won the Overall Best Debater Award.
Co-organised by Chongqing University and the Chinese Debate Association, the six-day competition attracted 110 outstanding debaters from various universities, including Fudan University, Nanjing University, Renmin University of China, Tianjin University, Wuhan University, the University of Malaya, the University of Melbourne, Monash University, and UM.
The teams from UM and Nanjing University entered the final and debated on the topic ‘Whether globalisation is good or bad for humanity?' In the end, the UM team beat their counterpart with a score of 12:9.
