UM won 2nd Prize in “21st Century” National English Speaking Competition

After a few months of waiting, the 26th China Daily “21st Century. Coca-Cola Cup” National English Speaking Competition Semi-final/Finals was finally be held in Chengdu. The competitors participating in the Semi-final/Final are outstanding speakers chosen from a total of 900,000 contenders from more than 30 provinces, and the representative of University of Macau this year was able to stand out from the fierce competition and win the 2nd Prize.

Representing our university was Choi Sok Wa, a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Education and Cheong Kun Lun College. After the competition, she reflected, “To me, this competition was full of fulfilment and regret. It has been my dream and goal to enter the stage of national public speaking contest. After many times of trying and failing, and by reflecting my performance after each contest. I finally have the chance to compete with other top speakers from different provinces at the end of my university life. I consider joining competition as a place for me to constantly learn and change through modifying my delivery and speech, and learning different delivery style from other amazing speakers. This is also why I keep joining different competitions in these four years. “

“Even though it’s a pity that I can’t join the contest in Chengdu. But from submitting the speech, to holding the contest and awarding ceremony, it allows contestants who cannot join the contest in person to also be a part of the contest. It shows the possibility and future prospects of this type of competition. Also, it makes me realize no matter how difficult the situation is, there is still possibility if you are willing to try.”
