The Fourth University of Macau Energy Saving Competition (May Update)

Most participating units’ electricity cost increased in May of 2018. The top 10 participating units are “Faculty of Health Science” (E12), “UM Sports Complex” (N8), “University Gallery and Wu Yee Sun Library” (E1 & E2), “Cheong Kun Lun College” (W34), “Humanities and Social Sciences Building” (E21), “Administration Building” (N6), “Faculty of Science and Technology” (E11), “Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College” (W33), “Research Building N22” (N22), and “Lui Che Woo College” (W22). Only the top 3 participating units recorded a drop in electricity costs ranging from 4.1% to 13.96%.

The Faculty Big Saver in May is “Faculty of Health Science” (E12). The electricity cost saving is MOP 22,590.

As for the award “Best Implementer of Energy-Saving Measures”, “University Gallery and Wu Yee Sun Library” (E1 & E2), “Faculty of Business Administration” (E22), and “Student Activity Centre, Faculty of Law & Faculty of Education” (E31, E32 & E33) implemented 11, 11 and 10 energy saving measures, respectively, in May. The measures included switching off of unused lightings, computer before getting off work, setting air conditioning temperature to 25 degree, keeping doors and windows closed when air conditioners are running, switching off of unused lamps during recess period or holidays, etc.

The electricity expenses of all residential colleges increased in May. The most energy efficient residential college is “Cheong Kun Lun College” (W34). The increase of electricity expense is only 0.47%.

The charts and figures below demonstrate the performance of each participating unit in May.

Remark: As W34 is the new operation building in June 2017, average electricity cost in May of 2017 of other residential colleges are used for comparison.

Its amount is not bound to the upper limit defined in the first clause of the “University of Macau Guidelines for Working Meals”, however, it shall be spent within the annual budget of 2018.)
