Dear Colleagues,

UMGothic are delighted to announce our fourth Zoom symposium: The Future of Gothic. The event will take place on 26 February 2021 at 5:00 p.m., Macao time.

As its title suggests, this event will be very much concerned with how Gothic research is adapting to the challenges posed by the present day, and broadening its intellectual culture in anticipation of future scholarship. Appropriately, we have invited an international range of speakers who can truly be said to be at the cutting edge of scholarship, and we will highlight in particular the groundbreaking work that is currently being produced by doctoral candidates and early career researchers. The symposium will be deliberately and provocatively interdisciplinary, with insights from the digital humanities, textual scholarship and editing, cross-generic research and creative writing all contributing to a debate which we hope will interest scholars far beyond the Gothic.

As in our previous symposia, the format will be based around ten-minute presentations, followed by questions from participants. Abstracts will be circulated shortly before the event via Twitter (@UMGothic) to allow participants to submit questions in advance.

UMGothic are delighted to welcome Professor Dale Townshend of Manchester Metropolitan University as our keynote speaker. The papers will be chaired by Professor Tan See Kam of Faculty of Arts and Humanities, UM.
