The Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Macau is going to organize the IAS mini forums from March to April. Each mini forum will last for around an hour and one IAS fellow will be invited provide a topic of his/her interest and briefly introduce the background for 5 to 10 minutes, leaving the room for discussion. Fellows, faculty members, and their students are welcome to join. To make the mini forums more enjoyable, light refreshment will be offered.

The second IAS mini forum will be presented by Prof. Hans-Georg MOELLER, Senior Research Fellow of IAS (Chinese Culture in Diverse Cultural Environment), Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies ( FAH/DPHIL ). 摘要 Abstract: Careless or Carefree? The ambiguity of the word “care”—indicating both affection and anguish—reflects an ambiguity of the human condition. On the one hand, what and who we care for defines what matters most to us and who we are. On the other hand, it also defines what we worry about and fear most intensely. Is it at all possible to become carefree without being careless—or to care without becoming careworn?
