MCMC - FACULTY SEMINAR SERIES:
Mediation, Peer Mediation, and Non-violent Communication

On Wednesday, 23rd November 2022, MCM College was delighted to have college affiliate, Prof. Raymond Lai (FSS) to meet with students. The workshop drew interest among students especially as it was related to issues regarding peer mediation. Prof. Lai stated that one of the objectives was to offer participants an overview of mediation as a form of non-violent approach to conflict resolution, and the meanings of peer mediation in non-violent conflict resolution education.

Problem solving and conflict resolution skills are highly considered as soft skills, and students should become more aware of developing their abilities in applying the concepts of non-violent conflict-resolution. Prof. Lai added that by doing so, it could aid in the development of inner peace, and establishment of tolerance, compassion, sharing and caring.

Students were given various examples and simulated cases to see how different cases could be handled.

Prof. Lai is very experienced and has completed training courses on mediation and arbitration since 2019.
