UM Mental Health Awareness Month:
“Speak with You, Feel Your Mood” Emotion and Stress Management Seminar
10th October was "World Mental Health Awareness Day" in which MCM College invited Caritas Macau – Life Hope Hotline to deliver a workshop on emotion and stress management. Topics included the value of emotions, emotion management methods, recognition of suicide crisis signals, and helping skills for supporting others.
Guest speaker, Mr. Andy Lam, pointed out that students face different challenges during different stages at university. Once they encounter adversity or setbacks, they develop negative emotions. If they do not get immediate emotional ventilation and appropriate support, they may even have suicidal thoughts. During the workshop, participants took a self “emotional health state test”, experienced a muscle relaxation exercise, learned five effective methods for emotional ventilation, and conducted case role-play in small groups. Finally, on behalf of the college, Resident Fellow, Ms Alice Hong presented a certificate of appreciation to the speaker, and thanked him for providing students with professional mental health knowledge, which benefited students a lot.
