Moon Chun Memorial College: “Sprinkle a Little Love” Home Visit to the Elderly

On 13th November 2021, students from Moon Chun Memorial College and members of Macau IN Volunteer Group headed to the district of the Ruins of St. Paul’s to “sprinkle a little love in the community”, by visiting to the elderly. Students were able to get an insight into their living conditions, and show some care and warmth for them. This activity received overwhelming response and attracted twenty-two participants in which the students were divided into six groups for visitations (led by senior volunteers from Macau IN Volunteer Group). A total of twelve households were visited.
Resident Assistant(RA) Horace Lei, who organised this volunteer activity did a lot of preparation work, including finding a volunteer organization for collaboration, meeting with volunteer organization representatives, promoting the activity and recruiting participants.
“Planning this activity requires maintaining good communication with the college’s resident fellow and volunteer organisation’s representative, which is a good opportunity for me to practise personal communication skills” he said .
Although there were language differences between Cantonese and Mandarin when communicating with the elderly, however both students and the elderly felt each other’s sincerity solely from their bright smiles and gestures.
      Lulu Xie said,
“ I think that it is very meaningful to visit the elderly at their homes, and I hope that MCM College can develop long-term elderly volunteer services in the future.”
      Vikki Chang said,
“ I feel grateful for having such a great opportunity to meet different elderly people and bring them little love and care. I look forward to participating in such activity again.”
MCM College has been actively encouraging students to organize volunteer activities to cultivate their competency of service and leadership through RC Education. We hope that more students will participate in different types of voluntary work in the future and care about the needs in the community.
