The Faculty of Education at the University of Macau Leaps to Top Five in the Greater China Area
 According to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) announced on May 26, 2021, the University of Macau is ranked 101-150th globally for Education, which represents the 5th in Greater China Area. This is the best ranking for the Education subject of UM. It is also the best performance in this subject among all higher education institutions in Macau. Considering our rankings in 2020, 201-300th in the world and 15th in the Greater China Area, this is a big leap.
ARWU is among the top four rankings of world universities, including US News, QS, and THE. This ranking places more emphasis on academic performance. In the 2021 THE subject and QS subject rankings, UM is ranked 101-125th and 251-300th in Education respectively. The outstanding performance in the subject of Education of UM in different rankings show that UM is already at or close to the world-class academic standards.
In 2020, the 55 academic staff members of the Faculty of Education of UM published 109 SSCI-indexed journal articles, which contributes significantly to this leap. In the next five to ten years, the Faculty of Education will strive for more publications in core Chinese journals (such as CSSCI, TSSCI) while strengthening its international influence. It will strengthen exchanges and collaborations with teachers’ colleges in the Greater China and Greater Bay areas. We wish to grasp the developmental trends of education in Macau, closely connect with the Education and Youth Development Bureau and local schools, fully support the training of talents in secondary and higher education institutions, and actively commit to the construction and development of the “Love Macau Love China” education system.
