MCM College: Step-by-Step Digital Mental Health Programme Award Ceremony

An award ceremony for e-helpers of “Step-by-Step Digital Mental Health Programme” was recently held at the MCM College. The aim was to recognize e-helpers who have provided support to app users of “Step-by-Step” from October 2021 to May 2022. Among them, Margie Wang, Jennifer Gao and Katelyn Chen from MCM College were awarded Best E-helper Awards.

“Step-by-Step” is a mobile application designed for university students with mental health issues. It was expected to provide reliable and effective self-help methods for its users. This programme was organised jointly by UM’s Centre for Macau Studies and New York University Shanghai, sponsored by the Bank of China Macau Branch, the Rotary Club of Amizade Macao, the Rotary Club of Macau, and the Rotary Club of Penha, Macao. UM’s Student Counselling Section, Moon Chun Momorial College, and Shiu Pong College provided training for e-helpers in this programme.

The ceremony began with a short video, reviewing training, supervision and reflection sessions that e-helpers went through, followed by outstanding e-helpers’ sharing experiences. MCM College student, Jennifer Gao was invited to share her experience in the programme . She said,

Through this programme, I’ve learnt that there are many people around us who need help, and I can also pay more attention to other people's emotions. This programme gives me more than just getting a certificate. For me, it is more of an experience. There will be some good changes for me in the future, whether it is for my personal growth or getting along with others.

Dr. Elvo Sou, Head of Student Counselling Section was invited to give the closing remark for the ceremony. Other invited guests included Dr. Mia Wong, Functional Head of Psychological Counselling Centre and Ms Sharon Lao, Senior Administrative Officer of the Centre for Macau Studies. In the end, each guest presented souvenirs to e-helpers to thank them for their dedicated efforts.
