Freshers’ Week at MCM College - Matriculation 2022/23
Freshers' Week has concluded across the collegiate community at Moon Chun Memorial College. It is a week where one meets new friends, makes choices, and experiences a new chapter of university life.
This year, matriculation takes place virtually, but this has not stopped the new freshmen cohort becomes familiar with MCM College. Matriculation kicks off on the 9th August 2022, with welcome remarks from the College Master Prof. Cheung Kwok-Cheung. Throughout the week, student leaders work diligently and earnestly in helping freshers to become familiar with various college information sessions and hosting ice breaking activities for MCMC members, new and returning, to get to know each other.
Finally, a part of Fresher’s week is the Radio sessions initiated by the House Association, interviewing and interacting with the College Master, Associate Master, Resident Fellows, Office Functional Head and part time social worker, so that students are able to learn more about them and their personal stories.
“I think these activities are so good! These days we cannot meet with each other because of the epidemic. So, if there is no such online activities, I will feel a little uneasy when I arrive campus. Upperclassmen and teachers from the College are all very warm-hearted and patient in answering my questions. That really helps me a lot. The radio is also very interesting, and I feel closer with the teachers.” – Dyllis Dai, freshman from Beijing.
“Personally I think people get closer during the MCMC Radio Activity. I have benefited a lot from listening to the academic experiences of the College Master, Associate Master and Resident Fellows. Since I am a freshman, I am still a little bit nervous and afraid of speaking in public. However, the enthusiasm of the seniors eased my tension. From these activities, I got to meet a lot of seniors and classmates. And we got to open up and communicate. Whether it's a question about accommodation or a question about credits, the seniors will answer patiently. I am very grateful to the seniors for their guidance! I am so glad that I am able to take part in these activities which benefit me a lot.” – Carmen Wong, freshman from Macao.
“For the academic issues that I am not clear about, upperclassmen from the College have explained in much detail, teaching us how to add/drop courses and understanding the study plan. It is really useful for us, the young freshmen! The ice breaking activities designed by each floor also let me gradually integrate into the loving family of MCMC and make many new friends.” – Cai Wa, freshman from Harbin.
