Dear student,

The new school year has begun. While students are embracing themselves for new knowledge and new friends, the new beginning in school may bring concerns to these young students over getting along with their peers.

Bullies could be products of immaturity or playfulness of students. Bulling behaviours can range between saying mean things to another person, spreading rumours online about someone, beating someone up or blackmail others for financial gains. Bullying is unacceptable and bullies could face criminal liability for their actions.

According to Article 175 of the Macao Penal Code, anyone who damages another person’s reputation could receive an imprisonment term of 3 months; Article 147 of the same code states that anyone who threatens to make another person frightened or unease could face up to 2 years in prison; Article 137 stipulates that anyone who causes bodily harm to others may be sentenced to 3 years’ imprisonment and Article 215 specifies that a person could receive an imprisonment term of 8 years for his violence or aggravated harm or threat to others.

The Judiciary Police reminds students to be more tolerant and courteous with each other, and do not stay quiet if they know or encounter any types of bullying.
If you have any crime intelligence for the police, please contact us via the Safe School Network (www.pj.gov.mo).
