How to Read Simplified Chinese character in Lotus Notes?

If you receive a Internet message in MIME format that contains a character set but does not correctly indicate its character set, you can choose the correct character set from a list of options. For example, if you receive a mail message in MIME format from a friend in Japan, but you only see scrambled ASCII characters as the body text, it probably means that the message was not correctly encoded by the sender, so Notes is using the wrong character set to display the message. By choosing the correct Japanese character set, you can then read the message in its proper format.

Similarly, if you are creating a message to send to someone in MIME format, you can force Notes to use a specific character set.

To switch a MIME character set when reading a message sent in MIME format

This option is only available if you receive a message in MIME format.

3. If you chose Other, select the language character set you need to read the mail message in the "MIME Character sets" dialog box.

To select a MIME character set when creating a message that is being sent in MIME format

1. Create a mail message.

2. Choose Actions - Delivery Options.

3. Click Advanced.

4. Select the character set you need to apply to the message in the "MIME Character Set" list under "Internet Mail Message Format," and click OK.

Note If you try selecting a character set and decide not to keep the results, open the dialog box again and select Default. Notes will return to an appropriate character set based on the content of the message.
